KIWANIS CLUB OF MAUI/MAUI COUNTY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD MEET GENERAL RULES & POLICIES
ELIGIBILITY
All boys and girls participating by grade level and age: a) 8th Grade: Boys and Girls who are 15 years & older on day of meet cannot participate. b) 7th Grade: Boys and Girls who are 14 years & older on day of meet cannot participate as an 8th grader.. c) 6th Grade: Boys and Girls who are 13 years & older on day of meet cannot participate as 6th grader but can participate as a 7th or 8th grader.
* Coaches will operate on an honor system in determining age & eligibility of their athletes.
PARTICIPATION
Each athlete can participate in only one field event, (includes chin up and softball throw), one running event, and one relay. There is a limit of three athletes per grade in any one event. No exceptions will be made.
Any questions or issues must be presented to Meet Officials at least one week prior to the event.
HEATS
1. Athletes should be placed in heats according to their best practice times/distances (i.e. fastest person in first heat, second fastest in second heat, etc.). Heats exist in running events and not field events.
2. If there are more than eight (8) participants registered in any one heat, the heat will be split into two (2) separate heats with the results based on the best times of the runners in the two heats. For example, if there are ten (10) runners entered in the eighth grade boys 60 yard dash, five boys will run in one heat and the other five boys will run in the second heat. The best four (4) times will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place points for the heat.
SCORING & AWARDS
1. Scores will be added by grades and gender with a final school tally. 2. Scoring: First place: 5 pts Second place: 3 pts Third place: 2pts Fourth place: 1 pt. (for all events) 3. Awards: 1st place - Gold 2nd place - Silver 3rd place - Bronze for individual events. Relays: 1st place - Gold – only. Athletes placing in the top three positions in their respective events are to report to the awards area (mid-field) following their event for award ceremony. Engraved medals will be delivered to the coaches after the meet as soon as possible. In order to prevent engraving errors, please provide us with a typewritten roster of all athletes.

ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR & EQUIPMENT
Athletic Footwear: It is required that all athletes wear sneakers during all events. In response to foot injuries in the past it will be mandatory that all athletes wear sneakers for all events. No spiked shoes will be allowed: rubber, metal, or plastic. (Spikeless track shoes are permissible)
CHANGE FORMS & SUBSTITUTIONS
1. Track and Field event participant change forms will be available at the starter’s table, beginning at 8:00 am. Indicate on the change form the athlete’s school, name of athlete, whom they are replacing and grade level. 2 All field changes must be made before 8:55 am to the official in charge of the event. 3. All track event changes must be made between 11:00 - 11:15am to the Clerk of the Course located at the starter's table.
INSURANCE
Kiwanis Club of Maui carries liability insurance through The Hylant Group naming the County of Maui as a co-insured. Kiwanis Club of Maui carries supplemental medical insurance through AIG. The medical insurance is primary if no other medical insurance is provided by parents. It is supplemental to parent’s health insurance through their employer.
MISCELLANEOUS 1. The 200 Meter & 400 Meter Run & 4x100 Meter Relay will utilize a staggered start. Athletes stay in lanes at all times. 2. All coaches and athletes are responsible to listen to P.A. for call of events. 3. In an effort to improve the event we will continue with the “Olympic Style” opening ceremony. It is suggested that each school bring their school flag or banner with school colors to carry in as they are introduced. 4. Should a coach wish to challenge a judges call, he/she should approach the referee to voice his/her complaint. 5.
